Joint statement from Oak Valley Health and Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation: Cyber Security Incident Clarification

Late yesterday afternoon, Oak Valley Health was made aware of online reports indicating Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) and Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation (MSHF) were the targets of a cyber attack.

After investigating, we can confirm that MSH and MSHF were falsely identified, and it was a partner organization that was a target.

Out of abundance of caution, our Information Technology (IT) and Privacy teams are engaged and will continue to monitor online activity. We have also taken proactive actions to further contain and secure our digital environment.

The December holiday period has historically been a time of increased phishing campaigns and attempted cyber breaches. We encourage staff, patients, and volunteers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
