On June 3, 2025, nearly 200 community members gathered for the inaugural WITH MSH (Women Inspired To Help Markham Stouffville Hospital) luncheon event —Wellness, Wealth, and Wisdom. This female-led philanthropic initiative was launched with the goal of bringing together 35 visionary women philanthropists and leaders to support Oak Valley Health’s Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) in honour of its 35th anniversary. That goal was exceeded, securing 37 members before the launch today. WITH MSH reflects diversity in the community, and includes business leaders, entrepreneurs, grateful patients, and friends of the hospital.

“My family and I have used many services at MSH over the past 35 years, so I’m thrilled to be part of the inaugural WITH MSH community and excited about the impact we will make for the future,” says Melodie Zarzeczny, Retired Management Consultant, Oak Valley Health Board Director, and one of the first members to join WITH MSH.

More than ever, MSH is adopting new technology and models of care. WITH MSH is dedicated to raising funds and investing in important programs and services that will support innovation and health issues that matter to women. Fundraising efforts will contribute to WITH MSH ’s goal to raise more than $350,000 towards programs and priorities chosen by their collective voice.

“WITH MSH was created by women, for women, and is dedicated to advancing health care in our community. Members will then use their voting power to determine where their support will make a meaningful and lasting impact in patient care for our hospital,” says Suzette Strong, CEO, MSH Foundation.

Angie Seth, Freelance Journalist & News Anchor at CBC hosted the festivities and kicked off the lunch with a panel discussion — Shift Happens… In a Hot Flash. Wellness panelists and Oak Valley Health experts Dr. Gita Singh, Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, and Dr. Amanda West, Family Physician & Obstetrical Care Specialist, explored the topic of menopause and peri-menopause.

“My hope for the future is that we normalize menopause as a part of life, and that we become more aware and understanding of the challenges it poses to women, as well as their colleagues, families, and partners,” says Dr. Singh.

“There’s a generational shift happening. We talk to our daughters about what to expect from periods, and later on, maybe pregnancy, but why not menopause? I teach my residents to ask about all aspects of women’s health, and to make it easy to talk about,” says Dr. West.

The event wrapped up with keynote speaker, Pattie Lovett-Reid, Canadian financial expert and former Chief Financial Commentator for CTV News, who highlighted the crucial role financial balance plays in women’s long-term well-being and security, reminding the audience that embracing and following your passion is the key to women’s wealth.
