Q: How far back does your connection to Oak Valley Health’s MSH go?

A: I joined the MSH Emergency Department (ED) during the COVID pandemic in December 2021. Before that, I had never been to MSH — but from the moment I arrived, I quickly saw how dedicated the team is to caring for our community.

Q: Why did you decide to specialize in emergency medicine?

A: I’ve always been drawn to the pace and complexity of emergency medicine. It’s both challenging and incredibly rewarding, especially when caring for critically ill patients. I also love the diversity of cases we see — we care for everyone, from newborns to the elderly, often during some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. Being able to make a difference in those moments is what inspired me to choose this field.

Q: What have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a doctor at MSH?

A: As many people know, we are facing ongoing challenges with limited resources in funding for equipment and technology. Emergency departments are also seeing more patients who don’t have access to a family doctor, which means we are often the first point of contact for both urgent and ongoing health concerns. While we always strive to provide the best possible care, there are times when additional tools, resources, or follow-up options would make a significant difference. This is where continued support becomes so important.

Q: Is there a story you can share of a patient who especially touched your heart? How did you go the extra mile for them?

A: People often think of the ED as dramatic, like what we see on TV. While that can be true, some of the most meaningful moments are much quieter. I remember an elderly woman who came in after losing her husband of over 70 years. She wasn’t there for a medical emergency — she was grieving and didn’t know where else to turn. In that moment, what she needed most was compassion and someone to listen. It was a powerful reminder that caring for patients means supporting both their physical and emotional well-being, and that sometimes, simply being present can make all the difference.

Q: Why is it important for people to support MSH and help fund vital equipment and technology?  What would you say to them to give again?

A: Medicine is constantly evolving with new research, treatments, and technologies improving the way we care for patients. However, these advancements come at a cost. Donations play a vital role in helping us access the tools and equipment we need to provide timely, high-quality care. Every contribution helps us do more for our patients and our community. Continued support truly makes a meaningful impact, and we are deeply grateful for it.

Q: What message of thanks would you like to send to donors who support patient care at MSH?

A: On behalf of our entire team and the patients we serve, thank you. Your generosity allows us to enhance and expand the care we provide every single day. Because of you, we are better equipped to support our community when they need us most and that makes a lasting difference in people’s lives.
